Redhawks Roll To 4-0 Victory On Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's soccer team celebrated its Senior Day in style on Saturday.

The Redhawks erupted for three goals in the second half to pull away for a 4-0 victory over the College of Staten Island during an East Coast Conference match on Homecoming Weekend.

Roberts (3-3-1, 1-1 ECC) honored seniors Noah Balaam, Toby Balaam, Benjamin Lazcano Barros, Caleb DaSilva, Nathan Ferguson, Tamas Nagy and Marcos Ortiz in a pregame ceremony.

"All of them are just quality guys," Roberts coach Scott Reber said. "They are obviously very talented on the field, but they are also special people off of it. They are intelligent, they are kind and they are just quality young men.

Roberts took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Jack Hopson blocked a clearing attempt in the defensive third, took three dribbles down the far side and deposited his own rebound into the net for his first goal as a Redhawk.

Nagy, who scored his 100th career point on Wednesday, doubled the advantage in the 60th minute, picking up a loose ball 25 yards out and dribbling around three defenders before finishing from about 10 yards out for his seventh goal of the season.

Archie Murphy gave Roberts a 3-0 lead by heading home a corner kick off the foot of Conlan McCoy in the 83rd minute and junior Julian Silva closed out the scoring by converting a beautiful cross from McCoy in the 86th minute.

Junior Eric Jewson made one save to earn his consecutive shutout.

The victory completed an impressive 2-0 week for the Redhawks, who won 4-0 at Slippery Rock on Wednesday.

"The guys have really worked hard this week," Reber said. "We've made a few adjustments and it has worked in our favor to this point."

The Redhawks travel to Daemen for an ECC contest at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
