KINGS PARK, NY – Sophomore Trevor Heitkamp was the top finisher for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Cross Country team Saturday as the Redhawks ran away with yet another East Coast Conference (ECC) team title at the ECC Championship meet at Sunken Meadows State Park on Long Island.
Roberts won its 11th consecutive team championship with a near perfect 24 points and five of the top eight finishers in the race. Daemen (38 points) was second followed by Molloy (88), St. Thomas Aquinas (106), D'Youville (134), Queens (140) and Staten Island (179).
Heitkamp led the Redhawks with a second-place finish in 26:39.50 and fellow sophomore Jakob Zibbel was third at 27:00.20.
Freshman Joel Amstutz finished fifth overall just eight seconds later at 27:08.60 and sophomore Aiden McDonald crossed the line in sixth place with his time of 27:29.40. Sophomore Caleb Price rounded out the team scoring for Roberts in eighth place with a time of 27:38.00 as the Redhawks had five finishers in a span of less than a minute.
Sophomore Charles Matzke (27:39.80) and junior Vincent Ciraolo (27:50.40) finished ninth and 10th overall and sophomore Boston Dues was 15th in 28:17.80.
Up next for Roberts is the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship race November 8 in Hopkington, New Hampshire.
