COLONIA, NJ – Senior Amelia Ponto led the Roberts Wesleyan University Bowling team to a strong third-place finish at the season-opening Mercyhurst Invitational over the weekend and has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Bowler of the Week.
In addition, freshman Michelle Cummings was named the ECC Rookie of the Week while junior Abigail Barnard and sophomore Kaylee Stephens were named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll.
Ponto finished 7th in the individual portion of the tournament, rolling a five-game 967 series for a 193.4 average. In the Team Format (Day One) she completed all 50 frames with an impressive average of 19.34 per frame. Achieved an 84% fill rate, showing remarkable reliability in closing frames. Converted 81.3% of single pin spares and 77.8% of makeable spares, underscoring her precision under pressure. In the Baker Scoring Format (day two) she bowled all 50 frames with a solid average of 17.66 per frame. Posted an 80% fill rate and converted 78.6% of makeable spares. Delivered six double strikes in baker play, with a 37.5% double strike rate and Excelled in the 10th frame, maintaining an 80% fill rate and a 30% strike rate.
Cummings made a strong debut at the Mercyhurst Invitational, completing 49 team frames and 49 baker frames for Roberts Wesleyan University. Her team average per frame was 15.84 and her baker average per frame was 15.67, resulting in a combined overall average of 15.76 per frame across both formats.
Barnard placed 8th in the individual standings, leading the team with a 941 series and a 188.2 average while Stephens finished 14th in the individual standings at the Mercyhurst Invitational, rolling an 894 series for a 178.8 average. Across both team and baker formats, Kaylee completed 49 baker frames and 50 team frames, resulting in a combined overall average of 18.38 per frame. Abigail completed 48 baker frames and 50 team frames, earning a combined overall average of 18.55 per frame. Her overall fill percentage was 78.0%, reflecting her ability to consistently finish frames and keep the team competitive.
The Redhawks will compete in a dual match at William Smith October 18 and head to the Pat Lasey Tournament at Saint Vincent College November 7 in Pennsylvania.
