FLUSHING, NY – Junior Archie Murphy scored midway through the first half for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Soccer team but Queens College answered with four second-half goals to take a 4-1 win Saturday and claim the regular-season East Coast Conference (ECC) title.
The loss for the Redhawks (9-2-6 overall, 4-1-3 ECC) put Roberts in the number two position in the final regular-season standings. Roberts will host a semifinal round match at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas College will host No. 6 Molloy University and No. 4 Mercy University will host No. 5 University of the District of Columbia Thursday in first round matches.
Murphy scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 22nd minute to give the Redhawks the early lead.
Queens responded with its first goal early in the second half and then added two goals in a span of five minutes midway through the second period with the first coming on a penalty kick.
A late goal for the Knights gave Queens the final margin of victory.
