BUFFALO, NY – A slow start in the final game of the season for the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team allowed D'Youville University to take an early lead and hang on for a 1-0 win Saturday night at the season for the Redhawks ended with a school-record seven victories.
The Saints (2-12) took advantage of a 5-0 shots edge in the first quarter and scored on one of its two penalty corners in the period to take the early lead.
The Redhawks did not allow a shot or a penalty corner for the remainder of the game and had an 8-0 shots edge over the final three quarters but could not score the tying goal.
Roberts had four shots and three penalty corners with intense scoring pressure in the final 15 minutes the Saints defense held on for the win.
Sophomore Makena Tooley and freshman Natalee Lawrence combined for five of the seven shots on goal in the game.
Roberts finished the season with several records including goals in a season, goals in a game, wins in a season and consecutive wins just to name a few.
The Redhawks will compete in the East Coast Conference (ECC) next season as the conference adds field hockey as an official championship sport for the 2026 season.
