ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman guard
Jada Mushat scored 13 points in her college debut but the Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team could not withstand a fourth-quarter charge by the University of Bridgeport and dropped a 63-53 decision on Saturday afternoon in the Voller Athletic Center.
Mushat's three-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer gave Roberts a 47-44 lead, but the Redhawks were outscored 19-6 in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Meaghan Doherty added 12 points and freshman
Aniyah Jones added eight for Roberts. Sophomore
Erin Frazier added 12 rebounds.
The Redhawks took a 31-24 lead at halftime after shooting 50% 9 (12-for-24) from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Mushat had seven points and Jones tallied six.
Bridgeport came out strong in the third quarter and built a 41-35 advantage, but Roberts connected on four three-pointers in the final 3:23 to retake the lead. Doherty hit two treys during the run and Mushat and Tierra Hendrix both had one.
The Redhawks, who committed 19 turnovers on Saturday, will host Mansfield in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
