Second Half Surge Downs Women’s Basketball

ROCKVILLE CENTER, NY – Senior Cristina Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team but a second half surge for Molloy University allowed the Lions to overcome a halftime deficit and record a 77-58 win Friday night in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game.

Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio had eight points and seven rebounds in the first half as the Redhawks (2-5 overall, 0-1 ECC held a 35-29 lead after the first two quarters. Molloy (3-9, 1-2 ECC) rallied for a pair of 24-point quarters in the second half to overcome the early deficit and record its first conference win of the season.

Junior Zhara Adeyemi came off the bench to score 12 points and added six rebounds for Roberts while freshmen Jada Mushat and Aniyah Jones combined for 17 points with Jones collecting eight points and was tied for the team lead with 12 rebounds.

The Redhawks continue the ECC road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at Queens College.
