ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Zhara Adeyemi scored a team-leading seven points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team Tuesday night but a slow second quarter allowed Lock Haven to pull away for a 65-41 victory in a non-conference battle at the Voller Athletic Center.
The Redhawks (1-3) led early and took a 12-4 lead midway through the opening quarter on a layup by freshman Aniyah Jones but the Bald Eagles (3-2) scored the next six points to trim the lead and tied the game at 14-14 with a minute left to play in the first quarter.
Lock Haven hit a late jumper to take a 17-14 edge into the first quarter break.
The Bald Eagles opened the second period with a 14-2 run to open up a double-digit lead at 31-16 and led by 12 points at 34-22 at the halftime intermission.
The lead grew to 18 points as Lock Haven scored the first six points of the second half.
Three free throws by Adeyemi cut the lead back to 16 points late in the third quarter.
Lock Haven scored the first nine points of the final quarter to take a commanding lead and cruised to the 64-41 victory.
Jones and sophomore Erin Frazier added six points each and Jones led the team with four steals.
Roberts is back in action Wednesday night in the first game of a basketball doubleheader against Clarion University with a 5:30 p.m. start at the Voller Athletic Center.
