Men’s Swimming and Diving Sweeps Double Dual at MCC

ROCHESTER, NY – A strong team effort with nine first-place finishes led the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Swimming and Diving team to a pair of wins Saturday at the double-dual meet at Monroe Community College with Nazareth University.

Roberts downed MCC 172-105 and beat Nazareth 156-113. The victory over the Golden Flyers was the first in program history.

"I'm incredibly proud of our team," said Head Coach Sara Smith. "They fought hard and overcame significant challenges. The men's performance was historic as they conquered Nazareth for the first time in our program's history, and our women swam exceptionally well despite battling injury and sickness."

Freshman Ethan Springle was a part of two wins for the Redhawks as he led a trio of swimmers to the top three spots in the 50 backstroke with a time of 26.63 and also teamed with junior Andon Fedor, sophomore Avery Fedor and freshman Antonie Pieterse to win the 200 Freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:31.41.

In the 50 back, Avery Fedor (27.43) and sophomore Jaden Parshall (29.25) finished second and third respectively to give the Redhawks the sweep of the top three spots.

Pieterse added wins in the 50 and 100 Freestyle races with times of 21.64 and 47.42 for Roberts.

Junior Tommy Booth also won a pair of races with a top finish in the 50 Breaststroke and added a win in the 200 Breaststroke with times of 29.50 and 2:28.22. Booth was also second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.16.

Senior William Rugaber was first on the 3-meter board with a score of 237.30 and was second on the 1-meter board with a score of 245.30.

Freshman Tanner Pinto-Cohn posted a victory in the 200 Backstroke (2:14.12) and was second in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:54.11.

Senior Ronald Pasieka took a second-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle as he clocked a time of 11:25.88.

"This quality swimming at such a critical point in the season sets us up perfectly to give it our all at conference in just two weeks," said Smith.

Roberts is off until the Metropolitan Conference Championships February 14-16 at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
