STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Basketball team suffered its worst shooting night of the season as the Redhawks dropped a 74-52 decision to the College of Staten Island in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game Wednesday night.
Roberts (9-14 overall, 6-7 ECC) slipped into a tie for third place in the conference standings with the loss. The Redhawks are tied with Queens for the No. 3 position while Staten Island, D'Youville and Mercy are all tied with a 6-8 conference record and have an extra game played.
Graduate student Malik Brooks led the Redhawks with 14 points and was the lone player to crack into double figures scoring in the game. Sophomore Nasir Hammonds scored nine points and freshman Zach Hicks chipped in eight.
The 52 points is the lowest point total of the year and the 16-for-58 (.276) shooting from the field was also a season low. The Redhawks struggled from 3-point range hitting just 2-for-25 from beyond the arc.
Roberts will look to recover with the next game at home against the University of the District of Columbia Saturday in the Voller Athletic Canter as the team celebrates Senior Day.
