ROCHESTER, NY – The Roberts Wesleyan University E-Sports team played tough in a close 3-2 loss to the College of Staten Island Monday night. The League of Legends squad dropped a 0-2 decision to St. Joseph's Long Island Friday night to end its regular season.
In the Friday, League of Legends match, Caleb "Papifuego" Suckow was named the player of the match with his consistent vision prowess on the map. Suckow has ranked as the top vision score for Roberts in seven of the eight matches this season.
"He (Suckow) has been the unsung hero of the team for a while and his consistency in warding and vision," said Head Coach Aaron Stiles. "He has allowed Roberts a chance to pick up some rotations and skirmish wins."
The League of Legends squad will compete one last time this season at the upcoming LAN event against a collection of Rochester area schools.
The Roberts Rocket League squad jumped out to an impressive 2-0 lead in the Monday night match against Staten Island but an experienced Spartan squad rebounds to win a close third game and tie the match with a win in game for before completing the comeback win in the fifth game of the night.
Caleb "occams kbar" Jennings led the squad in the second game with a huge four-goal performance and a 5-1 Roberts victory.
"Roberts took an experienced team the distance and proves that this program is able to keep up with teams that have been in the league for more than seven years," said Stiles. "It was a good performance and a very close loss."
Rocket League has one more regular-season match against New Haven University Monday night and will also compete against the Rochester area schools in the LAN event March 30.
