ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team trimmed an eight-goal second-half deficit to two in the fourth quarter, but visiting Assumption University held on for a 16-13 non-conference victory on Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Emma Blumenstock led Roberts (1-6) with five goals while
Kadie Tierney,
Annie Mulhall and
Alison Dioguardi all scored twice.
Assumption took a 13-5 lead with 12:32 remaining in the third quarter before Roberts went on a 4-0 run to close the quarter. Tierney scored twice in the spurt while Blumenstock and Dioguardi each found the back of the net once.
Assumption opened the fourth-quarter scoring but two goals by Blumenstock and Mulhall converted a feed from
Ella Dossier to make it 14-12 with 9:32 to play.
The Greyhounds scored the next two goals before Blumenstock closed out the scoring with 3:44 left in the game. Roberts outscored Assumption 9-5 in the second half.
Emma Taylor and
Lia MacDougall also scored for Roberts. Dossier finished with two assists and Taylor collected nine draw controls.
Shawna Lesmerises made 11 saves.
The Redhawks continue their five-game homestand when they take on Molloy in their East Coast Conference opener at noon on Saturday, March 22.
