ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team's home opener turned into an afternoon of milestones for
Emma Blumenstock.
Bumenstock scored five goals and registered six assists while surpassing the 100-goal, 100-assist and 200-point plateaus in an 18-0 non-conference win over American International University Saturday on Redhawks Field.
"It means a lot, but getting the win means more," said Blumenstock, who became the fifth player in Redhawks' history to join the 200-point club.
Junior
Ella Dossier added five points on two goals and three assists and junior
Kadie Tierney scored four times as the Redhawks (1-4) earned their first win of the season.
"It was definitely a win that we needed as a team to start clicking," Roberts coach
Kristin Paolini said.
Roberts started early as sophomore
Alison Dioguardi registered an unassisted tally 59 seconds into the game. The Redhawks led 6-0 after the first quarter and 11-0 at the half.
Dioguardi, who had two goals and an assist, and freshman
Lia MacDougall, who scored three goals, both secured five draw controls.
Senior
Annie Mulhall scored twice and junior
Emma Taylor caused four turnovers and added three draw controls, three ground balls and an assist. Senior
Shawna Lesmerises made one save while recording the shutout.
While the Redhawks received contributions from nearly their entire roster, the afternoon belonged to Blumenstock.
The reigning East Coast Conference Attacker of the Year and Preseason All-American choice entered the game with 98 goals and 96 assists in her Roberts career.
The milestones came in rapid fashion midway through the game.
Blumenstock scored unassisted for her 100
th career goal with 4:02 left in the second quarter and Dossier fed her for another goal, and her 200
th point with 2:41 remaining in the half.
Blumenstock set up Dioguardi for her second goal of the game for her 100
th career assist with 11:04 to play in the third quarter.
Blumenstock now ranks fourth on the Redhawks' career scoring list with 205 points, one behind third-place Loren Dunn.
A complete player, it's fitting that her career totals after Saturday stand at 103 goals and 102 assists. So which does she prefer?
"An assist, for sure," Blumenstock said.
"Emma is the type of player who wants to be involved with everything, whether it's taking the ball to cage or setting up her teammates," Paolini said. "She is a senior captain and a huge leader for us."
Fittingly, Blumenstock is also more focused on Wednesday's 4 p.m. matchup with No. 15 Adelphi than anything that happened on Saturday afternoon.
"I think down the road that this day will mean more to me than it does right now," Blumenstock said. "Right now, all that I am thinking about is what am I going to do tomorrow and what am I going to do on Monday to keep moving this team forward."
