STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior forward
Archie Murphy scored two goals in the first half to power the Roberts Wesleyan University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the College of Staten Island Saturday in the East Coast Conference opener for both teams.
Murphy, who leads the Redhawks (4-0-2, 1-0 ECC) with five goals in six matches, finished a nice combination play from
Jack Hopson and
Iann Briones to open the scoring in the 32
nd minute.
Murphy struck again less than four minutes later off an assist by
Sebastian Guerrero.
CSI scored in the 76
th minute but the Redhawks were able to close out the match by controlling possession in the final moments.
Senior
Eric Jewson made four saves for Roberts.
The Redhawks will host Georgian Court for a non-conference match on Thursday.
