ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Natalee Lawrence took a crossing pass from senior Mia Robinson and buried a shot into the back of the cage to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team to a 1-0 victory over D'Youville Wednesday afternoon on Redhawks Turf Field.
The two future East Coast Conference (ECC) opponents played to a scoreless tie for the entire first half and half of the third quarter before Lawrence was able to net the lone goal of the game for Roberts (4-2).
The Redhawks dominated the statistics with a shots advantage of 22-2, a 16-2 edge in shots on goal and a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners in the game.
The play that led to the winning goal started as a penalty corner for the Redhawks as freshman Avery Carinci started the corner and sent a pass out to sophomore Makena Tooley who sent a pass to Robinson inside the scoring arc. Robinson dribbled past one defender before turning and passing to Lawrence.
D'Youville (0-8) was whistled for a pair of green cards and one yellow in the game.
The Redhawks return to action Sunday afternoon against Kutztown University who had been ranked No. 1 in the nation but dropped to No. 2 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) national poll released earlier this week.
