CANTON, OHIO – Junior Archie Murphy unloaded a blast from the top of the 18-yard box that was too hot to handle for the Malone University goalie and the ball bounced into the back of the net to give the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Soccer team a season-opening 1-0 win on the road in Ohio.

After a scoreless first half, the Redhawks (1-0-0) controlled the play for a majority of the second half but had difficulty getting shots from in close to the goal.

With 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Murphy took a pass from freshman Ewan O'Dwyer-Hall along the sideline and made a quick move to gain space at the top of the box and took a hard shot that went through the hands of the Malone (0-1-0) goalie and had more than enough energy to bounce into the back of the goal for the only score of the game.

The Redhawks continued to control the play down the stretch gaining possession in the corners to run the clock down and preserve the shutout victory.

Roberts held an 11-6 edge in shots with each team landing four shots on goal. Senior Eric Jewson made four saves for his ninth career win and fifth career shutout. Murphy picked up his sixth career goal and his second game-winner.

The Redhawks continue the season-opening road trip and will face Walsh University at 1 p.m. Saturday in North Canton, Ohio.
