ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Erin Frazier recorded her second straight double-double with team highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team but a late rally was not enough as the Redhawks dropped an East Coast Conference (ECC) decision to St. Thomas Aquinas College 68-61 Friday night in the Voller Athletic Center.
Roberts (3-8 overall, 0-3 ECC) had control early and held an 18-13 lead after the first quarter of play but St. Thomas Aquinas came alive in the second period to score 28 points and took a 41-32 lead into the halftime intermission.
After a close third period, the Redhawks held the Spartans to just 12 points in the final quarter and closed the gap to a point at 60-59 after a pair of Frazier free throws with two minutes to play but managed just two point down the stretch as STAC hit 5-of-6 free throws in the closing minutes to seal the victory.
Frazier's 19 points were complimented by a 15-point night for freshman Jada Mushat off the bench. Fellow freshman Aniyah Jones added eight points and senior Cristina Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio added six points and eight rebounds for the Redhawks. Sophomore Meaghan Doherty added four points, six assists and three steals.
Roberts continues the ECC schedule Sunday at home against Mercy University with a 2 p.m. game at the Voller Athletic Center.
