Lawrence Scores Twice; Redhawks Move to 3-0 in ECC

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Natalee Lawrence scored a pair of goals and junior Mary Catherine Maloney added her first goal in nearly two years as the Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey team scored a 3-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College Saturday afternoon in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game on Redhawks Turf Field.

The win, coupled with a Molloy loss at Mercy put the Redhawks (5-4 overall, 3-0 ECC) in sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

After a scoreless first quarter, Roberts finally hit the back of the cage as Lawrence redirected a shot by freshman Addison Shantal two minutes into the second period for the 1-0 Redhawks lead.

Six minutes later, Lawrence did it again as she took a crossing pass from fellow sophomore Avery Carinci and sent the ball past St. Thomas Aquinas goalie Evelyn McEwen for the 2-0 lead.

The teams played a scoreless third quarter and Maloney scored late in the fourth quarter for the final margin of victory. Maloney took a pass from fellow captain Makena Tooley and lifted a shot into the right side of the goal for the 3-0 lead.

The goal for Maloney was her first since her freshman season when she scored a pair of goals in the 5-0 win over Lancaster Bible College October 21, 2024.

Roberts had a huge 43-0 shots advantage and a 30-0 shots on goal edge. The Redhawks also had a 12-0 advantage in penalty corners in the game. McEwen was credited with 27 saves in the contest.

Roberts travels to Mansfield, Pennsylvania Sunday for a neutral-site game against Frostburg State for a 1 p.m. start.
