ORANGEBURG, NY –  Junior Gabby Croniser will be forever known as the first Roberts Wesleyan University Field Hockey player to score in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game after she netted the lone goal in a thrilling overtime victory over Dominican University Saturday afternoon.
After a close regulation, Roberts (3-4 overall, 1-0 ECC) used momentum in the overtime period to fire five shots and earn three penalty corners and eventually strike as sophomore Julia Lukasik sent a pass into the arc and Croniser turned and drilled a shot into the lower corner of the goal for the overtime winner at the 7:46.
The Redhawks had six shots in the first 60 minutes with three in each half but turned on the pressure in overtime with a 5-2 shots advantage in the extra period.
The team also had a pair of penalty corners in the first three quarters but totaled three in the fourth quarter and another three in the overtime period.
The defense was solid all day for Roberts as senior Avery Richardson was credited with five saves.
The Redhawks will host their first ECC game Tuesday afternoon with a midweek game against Mercy University on the Redhawks Turf Field. The team will be recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness month at the game.
