DOBBS FERRY, NY – In a closely contested match against top-seeded Mercy University Saturday afternoon in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship Tournament semifinal round, the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team fell by a score of 1-0 to end its tournament run.
The Redhawks (8-4-6) won the 2025 ECC Title and started the 2026 tournament run with a 2-0 win over D'Youville earlier in the week.
Mercy (11-3-4) broke the scoreless tie late in the second half with a goal off a failed clearing attempt as a header on a crossing pass landed near the edge of the 18-yard box and a quick shot sailed over the head of senior goalie Rebecca Hoffman for the only goal in the game. Hoffman finished with five saves in the game.
It was the sixth time in the last eight matchups with Mercy that the game ended in a tie or a one-goal decision.
The tournament run is over for the Redhawks but the team anticipates an invitation to play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship Tournament that begins November 30 in Kissimmee, Florida.
