ROCKVILLE CENTER, NY – Freshman Breanna Hard sparked a second-set rally for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Volleyball team with a trio of aces but Molloy University scored late for a 25-23 win in the set and posted a 4-0 victory over Roberts in an East Coast Conference (ECC) match Sunday.
After a 25-10 loss in the opening set, Roberts used an eight-point run in the middle of the second set to take a 16-9 lead. Hard recorded three aces in the rally and sophomore Rachel Dixon added a kill and teamed with freshman Sloane McCall for points in the run for the Redhawks (2-13 overall, 0-2 ECC).
Later in the set, senior Camryn Karelus had a kill and followed that up by teaming with Dixon for a block to knot the score at 22-22 before Molloy (6-9, 1-1 ECC) rallied for the 25-23 win.
The Lions closed out the victory with a 25-7 win in the third set.
Hard added eight assists and a pair of digs for Roberts while Karelus finished with eight kills and five digs. Sophomore Ryan Hull had 10 assists and senior Julia Dufkova led the defense with 12 digs.
Roberts will play at Daemen University Wednesday and battle D'Youville University at home Saturday in ECC action.
