Redhawks Secure Postseason Home Game With 3-0 Win

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University field hockey team secured a postseason home game and kept alive its quest for the East Coast Conference regular-season championship with a 3-0 victory over D'Youville in an ECC game on Redhawks Turf Field Wednesday night.

Sophomore Avery Carinci paced the Redhawks (9-7, 7-2 ECC) with a goal and an assist and senior Avery Richardson made six saves to notch her fifth shutout of the season.

Sophomore Natalee Lawrence scored her team-high ninth goal of the season, junior Makena Tooley scored her seventh and junior Mary Catherine Maloney added two assists for Roberts.

Carinci opened the scoring by deflecting a feed from Maloney into the goal after a penalty corner just 2:43 into the game. The goal was Carinci's fifth of the season.

The score remained the same until midway through the fourth quarter when Tooley scored off a pass from Maloney on another penalty corner. Lawrence converted an assist from Carinci to account for the final score with 2:25 to play in the game.

The Redhawks and Mercy are currently tied for first place in the ECC with conference records of 7-2 heading into Saturday's final day of play. Roberts travels to Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday while Mercy plays at Molloy.

Roberts can clinch the regular-season crown with a win and a Mercy loss. If Roberts and Mercy both win, the Redhawks would need D'Youville to defeat Dominican to clinch the top spot.

Roberts, which will be either the first or second seed, will host an ECC semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
