Redhawks Stage Late Comeback Against UDC

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team made a late run but was unable to overcome the University of the District of Columbia, falling 70-65 in an East Coast Conference game played at the Voller Athletic Center on Wednesday night.

Roberts trailed 60-48 with 7:36 to play before  freshman Aniyah Jones capped a 17-8 run with a layup to make the score 68-65 with 1:06 to play.

Roberts (4-17, 1-12 ECC) forced a shot clock violation on the ensuing possession but was unable to convert on the offensive end and UDC made two free throws in the final 18 seconds to secure the outcome.

Jones scored 23 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, to lead the Redhawks. Freshman Jada Mushat added 18 points, scoring 12 in the first half.

Senior Cristina Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio scored 10 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 4 steals. Sophomore Erin Frazier paced Roberts with 12 rebounds and six assists.
