ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore
Lia MacDougall scored three goals in less than three minutes in the fourth quarter as the Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal deficit to force overtime before eventually falling to Bentley, 10-9, in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Roberts (1-2) trailed 6-2 in the first half before scoring four of the next five goals, including three by senior
Kadie Tierney, to pull within 7-6 after three quarters.
Bentley took an 8-6 lead before MacDougall scored two straight, including a free-position goal to tie the game at 8 with 6:35 to play. The Falcons, who never trailed in the contest, scored again with 5:53 to play, but MacDougall responded with an unassisted tally, her 12
th goal of the season, to make it 9-9 with 3:38 in regulation.
Both teams had opportunities in overtime before Bentley's Callie Burchill ended it 4:36 into the extra sesson.
Tierney led Roberts with four goals and an assist and MacDougall finished with three goals and five ground balls.
Freshman
Brooke Guelli scored twice and added an assist for Roberts and freshman
Josella Harrison made seven saves.
Graduate student
Allison Clahane anchored the defense with five ground balls and six caused turnovers, including two crucial interceptions in overtime.
Roberts will host Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
