Comebacks Fall Short for Women’s Lacrosse

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Kadie Tierney recorded five points and sophomore Lia MacDougall added a four-goal effort for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Lacrosse team but a pair of rallies fell short as visiting Southern New Hampshire University escaped with a 14-11 win Wednesday afternoon on the Redhawks Turf Field.

The Penmen (1-2) built an early 4-2 lead and held an 8-4 lead late in the first half but goals by MacDougall and junior Alison Dioguardi cut the advantage to 8-6 at the halftime break.

Southern New Hampshire scored the first two goals of the second half before a three-goal run late in the third period with goals by junior Gianna Parise, MacDougall and junior Alison Dioguardi trimmed the lead to 10-9.

SNHU answered with four consecutive goals at the end of the third period and into the final quarter to regain control at 14-9.

Tierney scored a pair of goals in a one-minute span late in the period to cut into the lead but the Redhawks could not close the gap further.

Senior Ella Dossier finished with four assists while MacDougall led the team with five ground balls, three caused turnovers and nine draw controls.

Roberts plays on the road at Assumption University this weekend and returns home a week from Saturday to open East Coast Conference (ECC) play against Mercy at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 14.
