Women’s Lacrosse Leapfrogs to Second in ECC Standings

BUFFALO, NY – The Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Lacrosse team exploded for eight goals in the first half and the defensive unit finished with 14 caused turnovers as he Redhawks posted a 19-6 win over D'Youville University in East Coast Conference (ECC) action Saturday night.

Roberts (4-8 overall, 3-1 ECC) moved all the way up to second place in the conference standings with more than half way through the conference schedule. The Redhawks have games remaining at home against Daemen (2-1 ECC) and finish the regular season at Molloy University (1-2 ECC).

The Redhawks had a great offensive start but also had a solid defensive start to the game to help build the early lead.

Graduate student Allison Clahane led Roberts with three caused turnovers while senior Emma Taylor, junior Braelyn Evans, sophomore Lia MacDougall and freshman Erica Savage had two caused turnovers each for the Redhawks defense.

MacDougall, senior Kadie Tierney, junior Alison Dioguardi and freshman Brooke Guelli each scored twice in the early 8-1 run for Roberts. Senior Ella Dossier handed out three assists in the run.

MacDougall added two more goals in a 5-0 run in the second quarter as Roberts built a double-digit lead at 13-2 before the halftime intermission.

D'Youville added a late goal in the first half to trim the lead to 13-3 at the break.

The Saints stopped the running time situation with an early goal in the third quarter but Dioguardi scored her third goal of the game to spark a 4-0 Roberts run to open a 17-4 scoring margin.

Guelli and Tierney added goals in the fourth quarter for the final margin of victory.

MacDougall finished with six points on five goals and an assist and Dossier added six points with a goal and five assists. MacDougall added a team-leading five ground balls and was one of five players with two draw controls each.

Freshman Josella Harrison finished with six saves for her third victory in the last four games.

Roberts returns to action next Saturday at home against Daemen for Senior Day and a 2 p.m. game on Redhawks Turf Field.
