Redhawks Clinch Postseason Berth With Win On Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run bridging the second and third quarters to overcome an early three-goal deficit and defeat Daemen 13-9 in an East Coast Conference Game Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

Senior Kadie Tierney and junior Alison Dioguardi both scored two goals in the spurt while sophomores Hannah Sparks and Lia MacDougall each added one. Four of the goals came while the Redhawks (5-8, 4-1 ECC) were a player up.

Senior Ella Dossier led Roberts with six points on six assists and Tierney finished with five points after registering four goals and an assist. Dossier and Tierney were honored before the game with classmates Mia Robinson and Emma Taylor and graduate student Allison Clahane.

The victory also secured the second seed and a home game in the ECC Championship playoffs for the Redhawks. Roberts will play the third seed at a time to be announced on April 29.

Sparks, who has primarily been a defender in her Roberts career, provided a huge boost for the Redhawks on Saturday by scoring the first four goals of her college career. Her first goal gave Roberts a 6-4 lead at the half, she added a second player-up goal in the third quarter and closed out the scoring for the Redhawks with two goals in the final five minutes of the game.

MacDougall added three goals while Dioguardi contributed two goals, two assists and four draw controls. Taylor led Roberts with six draw controls and Clahane caused two turnovers and secured three ground balls.

Freshman Josella Harrison made eight saves, including several quality stops. Harrison and Braelyn Evans also collected three ground balls.

Dossier's six assists brought her career point total to 199 entering next Saturday's regular-season finale at Molloy.
