Cipolla Scores Twice As Redhawks Tie the Season Opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior forward Sam Cipolla scored two goals in her Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer debut as the Redhawks battled to a 2-2 tie with visiting Thomas More University in their season-opener on Thursday.

Cipolla, who scored 41 goals in 28 games for Monroe Community College the past two seasons, converted a penalty kick after a handball in the box to tie the game at 1 in the 67th minute.

An outstanding defensive play by senior Jenna Northup set up Cipolla's second goal. Northup blocked a clearing attempt by the Saints' goalkeeper and Cipolla sent a left-footed shot into the empty goal from the top of the box for a 2-1 lead.

Thomas More made a late push and tied the game with four seconds left as Addyson Fogle converted the rebound off a shot by Ivy Hoffman for the equalizer.

Josie Gruber opened the scoring for Thomas More in the 55th minute.

Roberts, which won the East Coast Conference championship in 2025, will host Malone University in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
