Rob McCoy

Coach Rob McCoy is entering his 16th season as the head men’s basketball coach at Roberts Wesleyan College. He is the longest tenured and has accumulated the most wins of any men’s basketball coach in Roberts’ history with a total of 171 wins. A 1981 graduate of Roberts, McCoy was a two-time Ken Curtis Memorial Award winner (1977-78, 78-79). He was also Roberts’ Most Valuable Player as well as Senior Athlete of the Year (1979-80). Prior to coaching at Roberts, McCoy taught and coached for the Churchville-Chili School District. A twenty-two year veteran of elementary education, McCoy viewed the prospect of returning to his alma mater in 2001 to coach as a challenging opportunity to make an impact for Christ in the lives of his players and the Roberts’ community.

In the seven years he served as the men’s varsity coach at Churchville-Chili High School, the Saints had six consecutive winning seasons including two final four Section V appearances in both A and AA classifications. During the 2000-2001 season, Churchville-Chili won their first Monroe County Division II title. That same season Coach McCoy and his staff was selected Division II Coach of the Year and Churchville-Chili Central School Coach of the Year.

In the 2010-2011 basketball season at Roberts, Coach McCoy helped lead his squad to a 21 win season and a Final Four appearance at the NCCAA Tournament in Oakland City, Indiana where Roberts was defeated in triple overtime by eventual NCCAA Champions, Dallas Baptist University. It was McCoy’s second Final Four appearance at the NCCAA Tournament, the first being 2005-2006 where Roberts finished with an 18 win season. Last year’s squad also made it to the NCCAA Final Four game where Roberts lost to host Grace College on a last second buzzer beater.

McCoy and his staff have won 154 games and have also received the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year Award in 2009-10 and the American Mideast Conference Coach of the Year Award in 2010-11. McCoy has had the privilege of coaching All-AMC North recipients, All-Freshman Team recipients including AMC Freshmen of the Year, NCCAA East Region First Team recipients, NCCAA All-Americans, and NAIA All-Americans. To date, six of his former players have continued their basketball careers overseas, one has played in the NBA summer development league, and more than ten former players have gone on to coach at various levels.

Rob McCoy graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College in 1981 and received his Masters of Education from SUNY Brockport. A native of Kenmore, New York, Rob resides in Scottsville, New York with his wife, Karen, son, Caleb, and daughter, Haley.
