Volleyball Loses Thriller to Daemen

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 25, 2011) – The Volleyball team lost a thrilling match to the visiting Daemen College Wildcats 3-2.

“We battled back and stayed tough throughout the entire match,” said Coach Jon Meyers. “Although we didn't play our best at times, forcing a fifth set was big for the situation we were in.”

The Raiders cruised through the first set, winning 25-15.

The teams traded points throughout the second set. The Wildcats won the set 29-27, leveling the match 1-1.

The Wildcats continued their strong play through the third set, winning 25-20 to take a 2-1 advantage.

In the fourth set, the Raiders fell behind 4-0 early on, but came back to even the score at eight. Later in the set, the visitors pulled ahead to make the score 17-12. The Raiders rallied again later in the set, taking the lead 22-21. The Raiders would go on to win the set 26-24 to win the set.

In the decisive fifth set, the Raiders jumped out to an 8-5 lead. The Wildcats rallied, winning the set and match 15-13.   

Katie Escnher finished with 14 kills and assisted two blocks. Gisela Ocasio had 18 digs and 11 kills for the Raiders.

The Raiders drop to 3-6 in conference action and 16-10 overall.

The team travels to Mt. Vernon, OH this Friday to compete in the NCCAA East Regional Tournament.
