MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (October 30, 2011) - The Volleyball team had a successful weekend at the NCCAA East Regional tournament advancing to the semifinals where the Raiders fell to Malone University in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 20-25).

The team finished the weekend 2-2 after defeating Houghton College 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-15) in the opening match in pool play Friday afternoon. In the second match, the Raiders lost to Geneva College in three competitive sets (23-21, 21-25, 21-25).

On Saturday, the Raiders downed Nyack College (25-15, 25-22, 26-24) before losing to the eventual champions, Malone in the semifinals.

"Overall, we are still seeing our team improve, which is exciting," said Coach Jon Meyers. "We've been focusing recently on our hitting percentage and three of the four matches we achieved the goals we had set for ourselves. Although we didn't advance to the finals or earn a berth to the national tournament, we were able to take some positives away from the weekend."

Lisa Bierdeman dished out 127 assists on the weekend, and added 46 digs. Gisela Ocasio led the way in kills, tallying 48 kills and added 47 digs. Senior captain Katie Maher led the team in digs with 65 on the weekend, and extended her team lead in aces with 9 more.

The Raiders close out the regular season at home on Tuesday when the team host rivals Houghton at 7:30pm. The match is a part of the 'Ladies Night' double header as the Women's Basketball team opens thier season against Brock University at 5pm.
