Raiders Win Season Finale

Box Score

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 1, 2011) – The Volleyball team defeated rivals Houghton College in three sets this evening in front of a boisterous crowd on Senior Night.

"It was definitely a great way to end the home season, " said Coach Jon Meyers. "Winning in three was one of the goals we set out before the match.  Houghton played well though.  They kept us on our heels right from the start of the match, forcing us into some errors.  Once we hit our stride and our offense got rolling we found success setting a variety of hitters."

The Raiders won the first set 25-18 after falling behind early in the set.

In the second set, the Highlanders kept it close when they tied the score 7-7. The Raiders went on to score three straight to make it 10-7.  The visitors were unable to rally as the Raiders went on to win the set 25-15.

The Raiders jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the third set. The Highlanders would come within two to make the score 13-11, but that was as close as the visitors would get. Jordan Wilson won the final point in the match to give the Raiders a 25-18 win.

Jordan Wilson, Katie Eschner, and Gisela Ocasio each notched 8 kills.  Kendall Havener led the team with 9 kills.  Lisa Bierdeman dished out 30 assists and tallied 11 digs.  Senior captain Katie Maher also dug up 11 balls on senior night.

The win gives the Raiders a final record of 19-12 overall and 4-6 record in the American Mideast Conference.

The team is back in action next Tuesday as they face Daemen College in the AMC playoffs in Pittsburgh.
