ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 13, 2011) – The Raiders Volleyball team earned a big win Tuesday night, winning 3-1 against the visiting LeMoyne College Dolpins. The win marks the first time Coach Jon and Kirsten Meyers have defeated LeMoyne College.
The Raiders were led by Alexa Antoni with 12 kills and Meghan Murray, who had 5 serve aces.
The Raiders got off to a quick start against the visiting LeMoyne College Dolphins, winning the first set 25-22. The team had a 24-18 lead, but the Dolphins closed the gap to make it 24-22.
In the second set, the Raiders continued to dominate the visitors when they led 23-16. LeMoyne again made it close, scoring 5 unanswered points to put them within two. Jordan Wilson earned the set winner when she made an attempt and the Dolphins couldn't make the return.
In the third set, the Dolphins stormed back to take 22-14 lead. But the Raiders answered with four straight points to make the score 22-18. The Raiders would get two more points, but it wasn't enough as the Dolphins won the third set 25-20.The thirs set was the weakest for the Raiders as they could only muster six kills.
The fourth set was a different story, with the Raiders winning the match 25-18. The Raiders were ahead 13-8 off stellar hitting from Gisela Ocasio. The Raiders continued their top form, going up 18-13 later on in the set. The game winner came when the Raiders blocked a Dolphins attack and then couldn't keep the ball in play.
Senior Gisela Ocasio finsihed the night with 22 digs and 11 kills.
The Raiders are back in action this weekend when the co-host the Roberts Wesleyan/Houghton Crossover Tournament. The team plays Mountaint State University on Friday at 5pm, followed by a match agaisnt Michigan-Dearborn at 7pm.
