Women's Basketball Loses to Daemen in OT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 10, 2012) – The Women's Basketball team lost an overtime thriller to rivals Daemen College Wildcats this evening 58-54.
 
Coming into the game, the Wildcats were ranked #23 in the latest NAIA DII Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Raiders had received votes, landing just outside the Top 25.
 
Both teams played it close until the Raiders started to distance themselves with less than eight minutes to go in the first half. Marissa Bunce would hit a three-pointer to cap off a 10-0 run to make it a 33-18 Raiders lead with 4:12 left in the first half.
 
The Wildcats would come back near the end of the half going on a 6-2 run to cut the Raiders lead to 35-28 going into halftime.
 
At the break, Bunce led all scorers with 10 points after hitting two shots from beyond the arc. Bianca Jones added seven points for the home team in the first half.
 
In the second half, the Wildcats cut into the Raiders lead, eventually tying the game with less than six minutes remaining after Chelsea Andorka hit a three.
 
The Raiders would re-take the lead less than thirty seconds later after Bunce hit her shot from beyond the arc, making it 48-46.
 
The Wildcats tied the game off a Jordyn Broas free-throw with less than two minutes left, making a 51-51 game.
 
The visitors had the last chance to win the game in regulation until Ellie Allen turned the ball over with a second left on the clock.
 
In overtime, the Raiders trailed for most of the extra period as the Wildcats led 55-53 with 1:38 left. Sarah Child drew a foul under the basket, hitting the front end of two free-throws to cut the Wildcats lead to one with 1:29 left.
 
On the next possession for the Wildcats,  Kosior hit a jumper to give Daemen a 57-54 lead. 
 
Bunce led the Raiders with 15 points on the night. Jones finished with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Raiders.
 
As a team, the Raiders shot 29.7% from the field.
 
The Wildcats out rebounded the Raiders 58 to 54.
 
Kosior led all scorers with 16 points for the Wildcats.
 
The Raiders are now 0-2 in overtime games this season.
 
The loss drops the Raiders to 1-1 in the American Mideast Conference and 10-6 overall. 

The Raiders have little time to lick thier wounds as the team hosts the University of Maine - Ft. Kent tomorrow evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 5pm.
