BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 18, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan nearly pulled off an incredible upset on the road this afternoon as they gave the league-leading Purple Knights all they could handle.
After trailing 2-0, the Redhawks won the next two sets to take the match against Bridgeport into the deciding fifth set. By doing so, Roberts Wesleyan forced the Purple Knights into playing their first five-set match this season.Â
Keeping Roberts Wesleyan in the match was
Jordan Wilson, who recorded a match-high 21 kills off of 39 attempts, finishing with a .462 hitting percentage. The senior middle blocker was also a force on defense, assisting on a match-high seven blocks.
Courtney Taylor was also effective with a .323 hitting percentage by notching 13 kills. Defensively, the freshman had four digs and four block assists.
Maggie Concannon posted 45 assists in the match, the seventh time the junior setter has recorded 40 or more assists.
The loss drops Roberts Wesleyan to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Redhawks are back in action tomorrow at noon against Dowling, who sit one spot ahead of Roberts Wesleyan in the ECC standings.
