ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2014) – The Women's Soccer team travels south to take on Houghton on Saturday in the NCCAA East Region final.
Roberts Wesleyan, who is the No. 3 seed, will face the top-seeded Highlanders after routing No. 2 Lancaster Bible, 4-0, on the road last weekend.
The winner of the game will receive the region's automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championships in December.
The meeting between the Redhawks and Houghton is the first since Nov. 12, 2011 when the two teams met under the same circumstances. In that meeting Roberts Wesleyan edged the home team in a penalty kick shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Remarkably, the Redhawks are still searching for their first-ever win against their NCCAA rivals in regulation.
For Houghton, the team is led by forward Stephany Ellison. The forward has been a force up top for the Highlanders this season as she has totaled 42 points (19 goals, 4 assists) in just 15 games. Ellison has taken 133 shots, placing 60 on frame, giving her a .451 shots on goals percentage. She has scored five game-winning goals in 2014 for a team that is 9-6-1 overall.
Roberts Wesleyan is led by sophomore
Bella Mitrevski, who has compiled 37 points (16 goals, 5 assists). She has also netted five game-winning goals and is 3 of 4 from the penalty spot this year.
Both
