ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 29, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan suffered a 98-70 home-opening loss to Adelphi this afternoon in non-conference action.
The visiting Panthers took control of the game with excellent shooting from beyond the arc as they finished with a 54.2% three-point shooting percentage after hitting 13 of 24.
Adelphi was nearly perfect from the charity stripe, hitting 19 of 22 free throws.
Roberts Wesleyan started the game with a 9-5 lead, but the Panthers used a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 20-9 lead with 13:09 remaining in the first half. Adelphi would never look back as they led by as much as 31 points late in the second half.
For the Redhawks, senior
Isaac Medeiros finished with a team-high 17 points after shooting 50% from the field. The forward also notched two steals and one blocked shot to go along with seven rebounds.
Both
Marcus Gooding and
Mike Stone added 12 points in the loss. Gooding and Stone each finished the game with a pair of three-pointers.
On the boards,
Tyrel Dixon grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds while scoring seven points.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 42.4% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.
Adelphi's Michael Coffey finished with 20 points after hitting 4 of 7 from long range as well as going 6 of 6 at the free-throw line. Duane Morgan led the Panthers with a game-high 26 points.
The game was the first meeting between the two programs.
With the loss, Roberts Wesleyan slips to 1-2 overall as they now prepare for the Wendy's College Classic. The opening round game will be played next Wednesday with opponent and time to be announce this Sunday.
