Men’s Basketball Opens With a Win at 49th Annual Wendy’s College Classic

Medeiros leads the game in points with 17 for the Redhawks

Brockport, N.Y. (December 3, 2014) – The men's basketball team defeated Hobart College 67-60 this evening in the quarterfinals of the Wendy's College Classic.

Although Hobart College was able to get to the net first, Roberts Wesleyan quickly took control of the game with a jumper then a layup by Isaac Medeiros. The senior forward lead the match up with 19 points, he was 8 of 14 in the paint. Medeiros also posted six rebounds.

After taking the lead the Redhawks didn't look back as they held a concise lead throughout the game. Roberts Wesleyan's largest lead came with three minutes to go in the first half; three key players for the Redhawks combined for the play. One of Marcus Gooding's four steals set up the play for Jordan McBride to assist a dunk by Kevin Madiamba.  The basket gave Redhawks their largest lead of 18 points before going into the locker room leading 37 – 24.

McBride lead in assists with five for the Redhawks, he also totaled 10 points. Madiamba was big defensively, with 11 rebounds and a block. He also contributed eight points. Another crucial player for the Redhawks was Tyrel Dixon, who shot 70% from the field totaling 17 points. Dixon was also a perfect 2 of 2 from beyond the arc.

Roberts Wesleyan continued to hold the lead in the second half allowing no ties or lead changes.

As a team the Redhawks shot 50% from the field, 40% from long-range, and 52.9% from the line.

The win gives Roberts Wesleyan a record of 2-2.

The Redhawks continue in the Wendy's College Classic this Friday when they take on top-seeded Rochester at RIT in the semifinals at 6:00 pm.
