ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2014) – No. 4 Roberts Wesleyan used their long-range shooting to dispose No. 1 Rochester, 80-63, in the Wendy's College Classic semifinals this evening at RIT's Clark Gymnasium.
The win for the Redhawks saw the team shoot 54.2% from beyond the arc as they hit 13 three-point shots in the game. Roberts Wesleyan was particularly effective in the first has as they went 8 of 12 over the first 20 minutes.
Junior guard
Marcus Gooding led the way by going 5 of 8 from long range en route to his 17 point effort for the Redhawks.
In all, six Roberts Wesleyan players made at least one three-point shot while
Jamaal Carter,
Jordan McBride, and
Tyrel Dixon all hit two from beyond the arc.
After leading 40-20 at halftime, Roberts Wesleyan managed to extend their lead to as much as 29 near the mid-point of the second half when Carter hit a jumper to make it a 66-37 lead.
Four players scored in double figures in the game as Dixon led all scorers with a game-high 18 points after going 7 of 14 from the field and 2 of 4 from beyond the arc.
Carter added 15 points in the game while
Isaac Medeiros chipped in 13 on the night.
Jordan McBride, who scored six points, was busy as he tallied eight assists in the winning effort.
Roberts Wesleyan, who improved to 3-2, make their second straight appearance in the Wendy's College Classic final tomorrow evening when they square-off with No. 2 Geneseo at RIT. Tip-off is slated for 8pm.
