Volleyball Falls to LIU Post Regular Season Finale

Despite the loss, the Redhawks earned the four seed in next weekend's ECC Tournament

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan wrapped up the regular season with a four-set loss at LIU Post this afternoon, locking up the four seed in the upcoming ECC Tournament.

By falling to the Pioneers, Roberts Wesleyan will travel to face top seed Bridgeport this Friday at 5pm in the semifinals.

Against LIU Post, who have now swept the season series against the Redhawks, freshman Courtney Taylor compiled a match-high 20 kills. That amount nearly matched her season-high 24 kills in a match against Caldwell in the second match of the campaign.

The outside hitter finished the day with a .415 hitting percentage as she made a total of 41 attacks.

Judy Schultz also finished in double-figures as she tallied 10 kills for Roberts Wesleyan.

Maggie Concannon and Elisabeth Rivera split time at the setter position as they teamed up to record 41 assists.

As a team, the Redhawks had a better hitting percentage and attacking errors against LIU Post, but were done in by 10 ball handling errors compared to the Pioneers three.

Another undoing was the Redhawks committing 11 service errors in the match.

Despite the loss, the team is making history by being the first from Roberts Wesleyan to earn a spot in an East Coast Conference postseason tournament  since being granted NCAA Division II active member status this summer.

In their two meetings against Bridgeport, the Redhawks have fallen both times, but played into extra sets on both occasions. In their road match against the Purple Knights, Roberts Wesleyan rallied after trailing by two sets before forcing a fifth set. At the time, it was the only five-set match Bridgeport has played in.
