WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 19, 2014) – Four players scored in double-digits to propel Roberts Wesleyan to a narrow 75-71 win on the road against the District of Columbia this evening.
Leading the pack was junior forward
Tyrel Dixon, who posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Dixon's two halves were nearly identical as he went 4 of 5 from the field in each stanza. The only difference was Dixon making one free-throw in the first half.
In all, the swingman shot 80% from the field, hitting 8 of 10 shots while hitting 1 of 2 at the line. He was also credited with three assists.
The Redhawks led for most of the game as there only four lead changes in the game. The largest lead was only nine points, which came early at the 15:05 mark when
Isaac Medeiros scored two of his 16 points. The senior forward ended the game just one rebound shy of a double-double while picking up a pair of assists as well as blocking two shots.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot an impressive 43.8% from long range after
Mike Stone had the best night of his season as he made 4 of 5 from three-point range. Stone totaled 14 points, which is a season-high and the most since netting 12 points on Nov. 29 against Adelphi.
Jamaal Carter added 11 points after shooting 50% from the field. The sophomore guard has now scored in double-digits three times this season.
The Firebirds, who were riding a two-game winning streak into the game, were led by Michael Terry's 21 points and 13 rebounds.
By winning the game, which was Roberts Wesleyan's first true road-game of the season, gives the team a 5-0 all-time record against the Firebirds.
The win is also the Redhawks' fifth in their last six games while improving to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play.
Roberts Wesleyan is off until Friday, Jan. 9 when they host Bridgeport for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
