Hot Shooting Propels Bridgeport Past Roberts Wesleyan

The Redhawks were unable to stop Bridgeport's effective long-range shooting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 9, 2015) – Hot shooting from beyond the arc gave the visiting Purple Knights an 87-74 win over Roberts Wesleyan, who was playing their first game since Dec. 19.

Despite a sold night with a 51.6 field goal percentage, the Redhawks were unable to slow down a potent Bridgeport offense.  The Purple Knights, who remained undefeated in East Coast Conference play, went 12 of 19 from three-point range to finish the game with a 63.2 three-point shooting percentage.  

The difference in the game was Roberts Wesleyan going 5 of 19 from long range and only 3 of 7 from the free-throw line. On the other side of the court, Bridgeport was an effective 19 of 24 from the charity stripe.

For Roberts Wesleyan, three players scored in double-digits as Isaac Medeiros led the team with 18 points after going 9 of 13 from the field. The senior also tallied six rebounds and a pair of assists and blocks.

Marcus Gooding added 15 points as he hit three shots from beyond the arc as well as hitting 2 of 3 at the line.

Junior forward Tyrel Dixon completed the game with 12 points as he connected on 6 of 9 from the field. The swing man added eight rebounds while posting a game-high mark of six assists.

For Bridgeport, four players scored in double-digits as Ernest Rouse poured in a game-high 27 points. Rouse was 8 of 10 from the field, 5 of 6 from long range, and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line.

In the all-time series against Bridgeport, the Redhawks have yet to come out on top as they slip to 0-5.

The loss puts Roberts Wesleyan at 6-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The team will look to rebound tomorrow when they host Dowling for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
