ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 10, 2015) – Roberts Wesleyan fell to Dowling at home this evening, 72-70, in a tense East Coast Conference contest.
Dowling would win the game when Miking Richardson hit the game-winning three-point shot with just 26 clicks left on the clock.
The Redhawks had several opportunities in the final moments, but the home team was unable to convert.
It was a close game throughout as both teams took the lead eight times while the largest lead of the game was eight points when
Jamaal Carter scored on a dunk to make it a 30-22 lead.
Roberts Wesleyan also had to play with several players in foul trouble in the second half as
Tyrel Dixon,
Marcus Gooding, and
Kevin Madiamba all finished the game with four fouls.
Gooding finished the game with a career-high 23 points after hitting a career-best seven shot from beyond the arc. The junior also set a new program record for three-point shot attempts with a total of 16. The previous high was 15, set by James Floyd on January 31, 2004 against Notre Dame (Ohio).
For Madiamba, the sophomore forward tallied 13 points while senior
Isaac Medeiros chipped in 11 points. Medeiros had a successful night on defense with four blocked shots to go along with six rebounds and one steal.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan shot 40.9 percent from the field while finishing the game with a 39.3 three-point shooting percentage.
Dowling's Ryan Hickey led his team with 20 points as he went 7 of 10 from the field and 5 of 6 from the line.
The loss drops the Redhawks to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Roberts Wesleyan will look to rebound next weekend when they visit Mercy on Friday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m.
