Volleyball Downs Mercy in Four Sets

Roberts Wesleyan came from behind to earn the four-set win at Homecoming

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2014) – Roberts Wesleyan earned a crucial conference win at home this afternoon, defeating Mercy in four sets.

The match, which was a part of Homecoming festivities, saw the Redhawks fall in the first set, 25-23, before reeling off three straight wins to earn their second East Coast Conference win of the season.

The visiting Mavericks was competitive throughout the match despite their .050 hitting percentage. The team relied heavily on Brenna White's match-high 21 kills in the loss.

For Roberts Wesleyan, outside hitter Courtney Taylor led the team with her 11 kills as a trio of Redhawks added 10 kills. Of that trio, Jordan Wilson finished the match with a .571 hitting percentage off of just 14 attempts.

Both Judy Schultz and Kendall Havener each tallied 10 kills.

For Taylor, she continues to lead Roberts Wesleyan with 138 kills and is averaging 3.07 kills per set through 11 matches. She has appeared in all 45 sets this season.

The win snapped the Redhawks' two-match losing skid and puts them at 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Roberts Wesleyan is off until next weekend when they visit Queens on Saturday at 7pm and LIU Post on Sunday at noon.
