GENEVA, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball earned a gritty 59-58 win over No. 3 seed Hobart in the first round of the Wendy's College Classic.
Roberts Wesleyan managed to survive a late flurry from the Statesmen after leading by 14 points with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The win is the third straight opening round victory for the Redhawks.

How it Happened:The Redhawks came out sluggish in the first half, but found their rhythm in the second half to end the game shooting 41.1 percent from the field while holding Hobart to just 32.3 percent as both teams struggled from long range.
Roberts Wesleyan led by six points with just 15 seconds remaining, but the Statesmen were able to inch their way back to make it a one-point deficit before the buzzer sounded.

Key Stat:Roberts Wesleyan scored 38 points underneath the basket as Hobart scored just 28 points in the paint.

Inside the Numbers:- The Redhawks also held the advantage in points off turnovers (13 to 7) despite committing more turnovers than Hobart.
- Hobart made the Redhawks work for their baskets throughout the game as they blocked six shots and stole the ball seven times.
- Both teams shoot poorly from three-point range, however the Statesmen were very cold as they hit just 4 of 23 from beyond the arc.

"Dixon's" Impact:Tyrel Dixon continued his strong start to the season with a double-double effort as he scored a game-high 17 points while adding 12 rebounds. The senior swingman added four assists and a pair of steals to his stat line.
On the year, Dixon is averaging slightly more than 22 points per game.
