OAKDALE, N.Y. (February 14, 2015) - Roberts Wesleyan faces another tough loss this afternoon, making it their second on the road this weekend. The Redhawks (9-12, 5-10 ECC) drop to Dowling for a second time 81-77.Â
Earlier this season, Roberts Wesleyan hosted Dowling (10-11, 6-9 ECC) but was unable to come out with a win at home. The final score of that game was 70-72.
The Redhawks Come Out StrongDowling was the first to put points on the board this afternoon, but after two and half minutes of battling for control, the Redhawks clinched the lead for the entire first half. The run all started with a dunk by
Kevin Madiamba off of a fast break. The Sophomore forward would add a total of 14 points and nine rebounds for the Redhawks.Â
Going into halftime, Roberts Wesleyan would lead Dowling 38-31.Â
Starting the Second Half out RightÂ
Coming out of halftime, the Redhawks continue to dominate the majority of the second half. The Redhawks gained a 14 point lead just over half way through. Not letting up, Roberts Wesleyan had control of the game until they lost the lead with 1:54 left. Dowling slowly started fighting back, chipping away a little at a time.Â
Isaac Medeiros led the Redhawks with 29 points and 12 rebounds, earning himself a double-double for the game.
Tyrel Dixon added another nine points and 15 rebounds.Â
Cracking Under PressureAs the Golden Lions were beginning to claw their way back, the Redhawks found themselves under a lot of pressure. With seven turnovers in the last 6:22 of the game, Dowling was able to use that to their advantage. The Golden Lions scored 13 points in the second half off of turnovers. With the amount of pressure Dowling was putting on the Redhawks, the game ended in their favor.Â
Bench Game StrongComing off of the bench for Dowling, Michael Guzzardi and MiKing Richardson, were some of the key players for the second half as Dowling made their come back. Guzzardi added 14 points to the scoreboard and four blocks. Richardson added another 11 points. Dowling's bench added 28 points.Â
