Tyrel Dixon scored a team-high 16 points as Roberts Wesleyan fell to NYIT on the road this evening, 79-62.
The loss gives the Bears the season sweep over Roberts Wesleyan after picking up a narrow 78-74 win inside the Voller Athletic Center back on January 23.
In this game, the visiting Redhawks played NYIT close in the first half as Dixon scored 12 of his 16 points to help Roberts Wesleyan head into halftime trailing by just one point, 29-28.
However, in the second half, the Bears shot a healthy 62.5 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from long range to blitz Roberts Wesleyan over the final 20 minutes of the game. In the second half, NYIT managed to go 7 of 13 from beyond the arc, helping to finish 20 of 32 from the field.
Roberts Wesleyan did have the advantage underneath the basket, evidenced by their 38 points in the paint which was 10 more than the Bears. They also held a slight 14 to 12 advantage in second chance points.
Fellow junior
Marcus Gooding also had a solid night as he tallied 15 points after going 6 of 11 from the field and 3 of 7 from three-point range.
The Redhawks will look to close out the season on a high note on Sunday when they visit LIU Post at 3 p.m.
