Rochester, N.Y. (February 28, 2015) – The men's lacrosse team dropped to Molloy College this afternoon in their first home game of the season.
In their last match up against Molloy in 2014, the Lions dominated play. Roberts Wesleyan proved to be a tough competitor this time around, getting on the board first with a goal by
Dom Cianfarano. Cianfarano ended the game with two goals. Molloy answered quickly with a goal by Joe Leonard, Leonard was the top scorer for the Lions with four goals. The first Quarter ended tied at two.
In the second quarter the Redhawks went down by three ending the half 3-6. Roberts Wesleyan closed the gap to go into the final quarter trailing 6-8.
The Redhawks started out the final quarter of play going down 7-10. In the final forty seconds of play
Matt Benedict scored two back to back goals making the score 9-10 with just 20 seconds to go. Benedict led Roberts Wesleyan with four goals and two assists. Unfortunately Roberts was unable to get one more to push the game to overtime and ended the match down 9-10.
Other goal scores for the Redhawks included Seth miller,
Brady Bermingham and
Logan Smart who all ended the match recording one goal.
Defensively for the Redhawks
Zac Sapor led with two caused turnovers. Goalie
Keith Keehn notched 16 saves and four ground balls.
Roberts Wesleyan looks to put the loss behind them this Wednesday on home turf. They face Walsh University at 4pm in non-conference action.
