DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (September 19, 2015) – Roberts Wesleyan came out with its first win of the season in a tri-match at Mercy College this afternoon in thrilling fashion.
The Redhawks took the first two sets before Mercy made things interesting by winning the third and fourt sets. However, it would be
Kate Steger who put the final touch on the win with her 17th kill in the match to close out the deciding set with a score of 15-12.
Sophomore setter
Elisabeth Rivera had a strong game with 41 assists, 14 digs, and one kill while outside hitter
Courtney Taylor notched 15 kills. Steger, who led the team in kills, added 14 digs, 3 aces, 3 blocks and an assist for the Redhawks..
In their second match of the day, Roberts Wesleyan looked to keep their momentum going in a matchup against a talented Bloomfield squad. The first set was back and forth with Roberts Wesleyan tying the score at 21. Howvewr, the Bears would take the set, 25-23. Despite a close match thoughout, the Redhawks fell in straight sets.
The tri-match leaves the Redhawks at 1-8 overall and 1-0 in East Coast Cconference play as they return home for homecoming matches against Le Moyne on Friday at 7 p.m. and an exhibition against Durham (Ont.) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m..
