WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a career-high 33 points from senior guard
Marcus Gooding, Roberts Wesleyan men's basketball fell in overtime to District of Columbia, 97-93.
Gooding drained nine three-pointers, which tied a program record, for the Redhawks.
How It HappenedRoberts Wesleyan led by three points when Gooding hit a shot from long range with 1:28 remaining in regulation to make it a 76-73 game. However, District of Columbia responded at the 1:03 mark with a three-pointer from Erin Senegal to even the score, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session,
Mike Stone tied the game at 84-84 with 2:22 remaining before the Firebirds used a quick five-point burst to take the lead for good.
Key StatDistrict of Columbia made half of their shots from the field, ending the game with a 50.7 field goal shooting percentage.

Tyrel Dixon and
Malik Dare finished the day with double-doubles as Dixon had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Dare chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds.
- Poor free-throw shooting plagued Roberts Wesleyan as they shot just 53.8 percent from the charity stripe.
- Stone dished out six assists in the game, just two shy of his career-high eight assists.
"Gooding's" ImpactThe senior, who went 9 of 23 from beyond the arc, tied the program record for three-pointers made in a game while shattering his old program record for three-pointers attempted, which was 16.

His 33 points was also a career-high.
